A SOUTHAMPTON road has now been closed as emergency works take place.

An emergency 24-hour closure has been put in place at the junction of Forest Hills Drive and Woodmill Lane.

Lasting up to seven days and having started yesterday (August 23), the works are taking place to repair a gas main leak.

These works also overlap with the current resurfacing of Forest Hills Drive.

This off peak closure is due to continue for up to seven days as well.

A diversion route has now been set up whilst works take place.

This route heads South-East on Woodmill Lane towards Oaktree Road before continuing onto Witts Hill.

Motorists should then take a slight left onto Mousehole Lane, take the first exit at the roundabout onto Townhill Way, take the first exit again at the next Roundabout onto Meggeson Avenue, before continuing onto Forest Hills Drive.

The diversion is said to measure 3.7km and takes around six minutes to drive.
