SOUTHAMPTON residents can look forward to a bank holiday of entertainment with the return of an annual funfair.

Southampton Common will be transformed into a funfair this coming weekend.

From Thursday to Monday people will be able to enjoy all the traditional rides and more.

The spectacle will run from midday to 9pm each day of the event.

Furthermore, on Monday there will be an Asian market with cloth, cooking equipment and 'trinkets' for sale.

The funfair, organised B.Cole & Sons Amusements, will be returning to the Common for the first time in two years.

It has been pulled three times since the start the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesperson for the company said: "As we are a local business based just a few miles from Southampton Common, it feels great to be back in our hometown. Seeing the same families come back year after and the memories being made really does make all of the hard work worth it."

Last September, civic chiefs cancelled funfairs and all other public events due to be held on city council land due to covid rules.

Events had been planned for Riverside Park, Veracity Ground, Mansel Park and Southampton Common – but these were all scrapped.
