A MAN thrust his head through the window of a police car yelling obscenities and racist abuse at an officer, a court heard.

Dylan Joseph Hendricks was seen drunk and stumbling around Southampton’s Bedford Place on March 3.

At one point the 34-year-old leaned into the window of a patrol car and said he hoped an officer’s mother and grandmother would get raped, magistrates were told.

He also made racial slurs too explicit to publish.

Southampton Magistrates’ Court also heard how Hendricks even said he would fight the officer, before police were called to another incident.

But later on, the defendant was tracked down to nearby Newcombe Road, where he had been knocking over bins, the court heard.

After being arrested, he said he had Covid issues, yelled homophobic abuse at officers and even urinated on the back of a police vehicle.

A Crown Prosecution Service solicitor said that Hendricks seemed to have no regard for the “vile and foul words” he used.

One of the police officers involved said that Hendricks had taken things to the “next level”. He added that he was ashamed of the defendant’s behaviour.

Hendricks, of Newcombe Road, Southampton, has convictions for affray and public order - many of which were racially aggravated.

Standing before the city magistrates’ court yesterday, he was charged with two public order offences which also were racially aggravated. He previously pleaded guilty.

Defending, Oliver O’Connor said that his client has no real recollection of the incident.

He added that Hendricks does not harbour racist or homophobic views and was “saying anything to get a rise”.

The magistrates’ panel, chaired by Mr Andy Sherman, gave him an 18-month community order.

Hendricks must complete 25 rehabilitation days and 80 hours of unpaid work.

He must pay £75 compensation, £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
