SAINTS have said it will take up to four weeks for refunds to be processed after fans faced long delays getting into St Mary's for the match against Manchester United.

On Sunday, ticket-holding fans were unable to enter the stadium due to a "technical issue" relating to the turnstiles.

This was the first home game of Saints' 21-22 Premier League campaign. It ended 1-1.

Just a day before, other fans had to queue to collect their tickets for several hours as they had not received their season tickets in the post.

Now the club has revealed that fans face up to a four-week wait for their money back.

In a statement it added: "The club would once again like to thank fans for both their patience and understanding in these matters and would like to assure supporters it will be working through all refunds as quickly as possible."

The club has been contacted to ask how many fans were affected.

Here is what Saints have said about those refunds:

Season ticket holders

  • All Season Ticket holders will have 1/19th of their Season Ticket value credited back to their account.
  • This credit can be used against a Season Ticket renewal, tickets for home Premier League matches, coach travel, stadium tours and other events sold by the club at St Mary’s.
  • At the end of the season, any credit that is unused and that will not be used against a renewal can be requested back as a direct refund.
  • Credits will appear on supporters’ MySaints accounts.

Individual match ticket holders

  • Fans will be refunded directly back to the method of payment used to purchase their ticket.
  • Any refunds where the payment to a card fails will be added to the supporter’s account as a credit.
  • Refunds will be shown in supporters’ purchase history in their MySaints account.

As reported, Saints quickly issued an apology following the issues on Sunday, adding that it has started a full investigation “immediately” with its access partner to “fully understand the reason for this delayed entry and the solutions to avoid a repetition.”

They added: "Please rest assured that the club views these stadium entry delays as unacceptable.
