A NEW campaign from My Journey encourages car users to rethink their journeys to avoid the smart motorway roadworks.

The My Journey team have launched their Travel Smart campaign, aimed at encouraging car users to consider alternative modes of transport, such as active travel and public transport, and to avoid peak times while work is in progress to upgrade the M27 and M3 to smart motorways.

Highways England are upgrading the M3 between junction 9 (Winchester/A34 interchange) and junction 14 (M27 Southampton interchange) to an all-lane running smart motorway.

Work starts in August and is likely to affect traffic on roads surrounding the M3 as well as on the motorway itself. The M27 scheme will be completed in Spring 2022. You can find out more about the smart motorway schemes here

The Travel Smart campaign provides a wealth of information about planning a journey. Tools and resources to help individuals explore which alternatives to car travel might suit them best are grouped within the themes of ‘Plan it!’, ‘Move it!’ and ‘Flex it!’ on the web page. They include live bus and train times, encouragement to try active travel for all or part of the journey and an interactive roadworks map that shows any road schemes that may affect the route.

Travellers are also invited to provide feedback on your journeys, without having to complete a travel survey, via the MyWays Automatic Travel Surveys app.
