A man has been arrested after a serious assault involving six men.
The incident involving six men fighting in the street with weapons, took place on Thursday at 2.43pm in Stanton Road.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We were called at 2.43pm to reports of a group of around six men fighting in the street with weapons.
"During the incident, a man in his 20s sustained injuries to his head and back and was taken to hospital for treatment where he remains today in a stable condition."
A 31-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
He has been released from police custody on conditional bail while our enquiries continue.
Officers are still keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
