A DOG found running loose on a stretch of Southampton motorway has been returned home to his owners.
The black Labrador, now known to be Murphy, was found running along the M271 by Gregg Turner on August 23 last week.
The dog was rescued by the 23-year-old consultant when he safely stopped his car and called him over.
Jonathan Poole also stopped on the motorway to help rescue the dog, and took him home until he was reunited with his owners.
Murphy waited at Mr Poole's home with his own dog Rudy while they waited for the owners to collect him.
Mr Poole said that "the owner had been very worried and was very thankful for his return".
