A HAMPSHIRE road has reopened after a container lorry ploughed into a railway bridge.
Winchester Road was shut after a lorry hauling a shipping container smashed into a bridge in Romsey.
Emergency services were called to the scene near to Bridge Road at around 11.45am.
The crash meant that train services were delayed during the early part of the afternoon.
The road has since reopened and trains are expected to return to normal services at 3pm.
A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 11.41am today, 31 August, to reports of an HGV being in collision with a railway bridge on Bridge Road, Romsey."
Meanwhile, in a statement posted online, South Western Railway said: "We are pleased to confirm that our trains are now running normally following a road vehicle striking a bridge between Romsey and Redbridge and there should be no further delays to your journey."
