A MAN spat at a police officer while falsely claiming he had covid.
Raymond John Cummings sprayed spittle at a female PC during an attack in Southampton, a court heard.
Appearing before Southampton Magistrates' Court, the 40-year-old was charged with assaulting an emergency worker in the exercise of her functions.
He pleaded guilty to the offence which happened on January 10 this year and also admitted to breaching a suspended sentence order.
Cummings, of Stokewood Road, Bournemouth was jailed for 16-weeks, suspended for 18-months.
He must complete six months of alcohol treatment and eight rehabilitation days.
He was ordered to pay £100 compensation, a £128 victim surcharge and a £50 fine.
