OWNERS of an award-winning Hampshire marina have unveiled plans to build 70 homes as part of a major improvement scheme.

Swanwick-based Premier Marinas has applied for planning permission to make a raft of alterations to Gosport Marina, which overlooks the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour.

Premier, which also owns Port Solent and Swanwick Marina, is seeking consent to extend and refurbish a building used by STS Defence.

It has also drawn up proposals to demolish an existing café, build a two-storey marina facilities centre and move a boat storage area.

A planning statement that forms part of the application says the scheme will provide the site with a viable, vibrant and sustainable future.

“This will be achieved via integrating the current disjointed employment uses and café into a high quality building adjacent to the existing pontoons, creating a new destination on Gosport Waterfront.”

The application says the scheme will deliver jobs, tourism opportunities and leisure facilities - as well as much-needed new homes.

“This will be achieved through the provision of up to 70 dwellings with excellent views across Portsmouth Harbour and an improved STS building and marina facilities building.”

Gosport Marina is the holder of a Five Gold Anchors accolade awarded by the Yacht Harbour Association.

The proposed improvements are outlined in a Public Notice published by Gosport Borough Council, which will decide the application.
