A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was found with stab wounds in Winchester.
Heavy police presence, including at least one armed officer, was spotted in Andover Road outside The Light of Bengal Restaurant this morning.
Hampshire Constabulary has now confirmed that a 37-year-old man was located with stab wounds at an address.
A 49-year-old man from Winchester has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody at this time.
The victim has been taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are described as serious.
Officers attended the area at 7.12am following reports of a serious assault.
Scene guards are still in place to preserve evidence, and officers will be in the area conducting enquiries.
Andover Road was closed for a short while, causing traffic to build up across the one way system, particularly in North Walls and Jewry Street. An ambulance and a police car were spotted parked in Stockbridge Road, not far from the crossroads.
The stretch of road where the incident occurred comprises of restaurants, takeaways, a dry cleaners, offices and some residential units.
The Echo has asked police for further updates, but awaits a response.
When a reporter attended the scene this morning, one man in the area claimed to have been told a man had fallen from the scaffolding.
Just one police officer stood in the street, but five police vehicles were in the area, with three of them parked outside the Ligh of Bengal restaurant.
