A NEW walking guide has been created at a Hampshire manor farm which is said to be the "perfect base" for a walking holiday.

Michelmersh Manor Farm is a historic farm in the heart of Test Valley which offers a range of accommodation and opportunities to explore the farm life.

On top of its existing offering, this Christmas, it is set to open its newly converted listed barn, which dates back 400 years.

This is said to make for the "perfect base" for a walking holiday with plenty of routes leading straight from the farm.

Now, Fran Drake, who co-runs the farm, has created a booklet especially for visitors, celebrating the very best of the Test Valley.

The walks in the guide include gentle ambles, full day walks, walks to the range of pubs and back and local places to visit by car, taking in paths and ancient roads.

Fran said: "Our walking guide provides a taster of just what can be enjoyed in this beautiful area and the farm with its unique history provides a great base to explore.

"There are also lots of walks further afield to be tackled, both long and short, for families and couples of all abilities. And traditional country pubs, cafes and tea rooms abound for refreshments along the way!"

Interesting facts are pointed out in the guide including the former home of Sir David and Lady Frost, the fishing beat once fished by Eric Morecombe, a semi buried ice house in Mottisfont's ancient churchyard and the site in Michelmersh where scenes from the 70s and 80s TV series Worzel Gummidge were shot.

There are ancient sunken roads, a church dating back to the 12th century and gravel workings where 1000 flint axes were discovered in the 1900s

The pub walks included take in a gastropub and more traditional pubs, all serving food and a range of beers, wines and other drinks.
