A SOUTHAMPTON energy supplier will be taken on by a giant company as the industry crisis rages on.

Ofgem has appointed E.ON Next to take on supplying Igloo, as well as ENSTROGA and Symbio Energy.

The three have a combined total of approximately 233,000 domestic customers.

Energy supplies will continue as normal, and they were switched over to E.ON Next on October 3.

Neil Lawrence, Ofgem’s director of retail, said: “I am pleased to announce we have appointed E.ON Next for the customers of ENSTROGA, Igloo Energy Supply Limited and Symbio Energy. We understand that this news may be unsettling for customers, however they do not need to worry. Their energy supply will continue as normal, and customer credit balances will be honoured.

“Your energy supply will not be interrupted. E.ON Next will be in contact with customers over the coming days with further information. Once the transfer has been completed, customers can shop around for a better deal if they wish to.”

Funds that current and former domestic customers of Igloo have paid into their accounts will be protected, where they are in credit.

Customers of all three suppliers will be contacted over the coming days about the changes.

If they wish to switch supplier, they can shop around but are advised to wait until the transfer has been completed.

They will not be charged exit fees if they decide to switch to another supplier.

What is Ofgem?

The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, supporting the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority, is the Government regulator for the energy markets in the UK.

One of its key purposes is to implement an 'energy price cap', that keeps companies from hiking up their prices to unaffordable amounts.

It was formed by the merger of the Office of Electricity Regulation and Office of Gas Supply.
