The police statement in full
We know lots of people will be talking about this today and we want to make sure you know what action we're taking.
Whilst we were out patrolling last night we were deployed to a number of incidents in Millbrook and Maybush after it was reported two groups of young people were causing criminal damage to people’s property.
We believe the groups of young people were teenagers and it was reported they were wearing dark clothing, masks or had their hoods up.
Four cars were flipped over and we’re currently investigating a number of criminal damage reports, mainly damage caused to cars.
We are also investigating reports of anti-social behaviour by the groups at four shops where they had entered together, intimidating staff.
We deployed to a number of incidents throughout the evening, specifically to move the cars that been flipped that had ended up blocking roads.
This level of recklessness and disregard for other people’s property, other people’s streets and other people’s homes is not acceptable.
We always expect to be busy on Halloween and we had additional dedicated officers out on patrol last night; but we were incredibly busy with these incidents caused by young people who were deliberately out to commit crime and disrupt the community.
We’re really grateful to those who rang us and told us what they had seen, and those who spoke to us on patrol. We can’t be everywhere, all the time, you’re our eyes and ears, so thank you.
We know people in the community will know who was involved in these incidents last night.
Whilst we have the investigations underway, we are urging those who know who is responsible to give us names.
If you’re worried about calling us, you can make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
And to parents, do you know where your children were last night and what they were doing?
Please do get in touch while we carry out the above enquiries.
