IT’S the family business delighting shoppers with luxury candles, wax melts and cosmetics, all handmade in Southampton.

Shimmer Candles is a charming shop in Bitterne precinct with a friendly atmosphere where everyone is made to feel welcome. Customers are even treated to free Costa coffee or Cadbury's hot chocolate to take away.

Jamie Ennew, from Shimmer Candles, told the Daily Echo: “Our customers love our products, but also love coming in for a chat and our customer experience.

“We try very hard to make sure each customer feels welcome and looked after. A lot of time and effort has gone into making the best possible products and we are very proud of our customer reviews.”

Jamie set up the firm in 2018 with long term partner Jade Marsh, a self confessed candle addict.

Fed up with spending a fortune constantly buying candles from a well-known American brand, they had a go at making their own candles. After about 30 attempts and various tweaks and changes for the better, Jade and Jamie soon felt that they could actually make better smelling candles themselves and decided to go into business.

Daily Echo:

The couple opened their first shop in Lowford in July 2020 at the height of the pandemic. It was such a success that they made the decision to relocate to bigger premises in Bitterne soon after. The current shop was officially opened by Saints legend Matt le Tissier in April 2021.

Candle scents include coconut island, violet sweets, candy cane, strawberry and rhubarb, fresh linen, Thai lime and mango and gingerbread with plenty of seasonal scents in stock.

A host of gift box options are available to suit every budget, alongside wax burners, melts and pods, plus a selection of bath bombs.

Daily Echo:

Everything is hand poured at Shimmer headquarters.
