A SOUTHAMPTON beggar with a 'flagrant disregard for court orders' has been jailed.

Clare Louise Munn caused cars to swerve out of the way by begging in the middle of Bitterne Road West.

Southampton Magistrates' Court previously heard how the 45-year-old, of Ellwood Avenue, would ask motorists for money or lifts.

On another occasion, police were called to Shirley High Street where Munn had been 'at it again' in July, 2021.

She was later ordered to pay £100 in compensation for common assault of an emergency worker and given a community order for wilful obstruction of a highway, begging in a public place.

Munn was then handed a criminal behaviour order banning her from begging in Southampton in January.

However, she breached this on February 4.

Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court on February 10, she pleaded guilty to the offence and was jailed for seven days.

Munn was also ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.
