A PUB in the heart of the community is holding a fundraising day this weekend after a staff member was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.
The Two Brothers pub in Chartwell Green is hoping to raise £5k for charity Pancreatic Cancer UK following chef Chris Chapman's, 57, diagnosis at the end of last year.
The fundraising will begin on Saturday, March 5 with a karaoke session and continue on Sunday until 11pm with a fun day filled with a variety of activities.
General manager, Kelly Rice said: "Unfortunately, one of my team members Chris was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November and it's terminal.
"Chris wanted to do something to make people aware of the disease and to make sure they are looking after themselves.
"We want people to become more aware of pancreatic cancer as it's the silent killer. People don't know they have it until it's too late."
On Sunday, there will be balloon making, a tombola, a magician, face painting, a raffle and an auction (plus much more) for attendees to enjoy.
Prizes include football boots worn by Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster, one night glamping at Botany in Warminster, afternoon tea for two at Rhinefield House, one-year window cleaning from Hi Tech Cleaning, a Liverpool shirt signed by Wijnaldum and more.
Kelly said: "We only found out Chris' diagnosis was terminal four weeks ago, and we asked if there was anything we could do for him, his wife and his family and he said he didn't want anything.
"But, he did want us to do this fundraiser so we are hoping and praying he will be alright for the day.
"It's a real community event. The amount of support we have had is just phenomenal and people have been brilliant.
"Chris' wife Rachel and step daughter Rowan have tirelessly contacted and collected for donations too. We have raised £1,000 already by doing meat raffles, bonus balls and by selling pin badges.
"The importance for us is raising money, awareness and doing what Chris has asked us to do. I'd really like for us to raise £5k."
