A DISPERSAL order was put in place in Southampton in a bid to tackle "noisy and rude" youths shouting abuse at residents.
One teenager has been arrested following antisocial behaviour in Millbrook last night.
Police have reported that a group of boys and girls were seen lingering outside the shops on Windermere Avenue outside Millbrook Towers on Saturday.
Officers asked the group of teenagers to move onto Mansel Park and away from the shops, but were met with "a lot of smart answers and rude remarks".
The teens continued to be noisy, disruptive and shout abuse at residents using the shops.
Police decided to implement a dispersal order to give police the power to remove the youths from the area.
The group still refused to leave, and more officers were called to the scene.
One person was arrested and three young people were given dispersal notices.
In a social media post, a spokesperson from the force said: "We were grateful for the parents of those who we dispersed who supported us.
"They were disappointed and probably embarrassed that we had to take action there child.
"One parent was not so supportive and felt we were being heavy handed.
"The video recorded by attending officers would not support this parent's thoughts about the matter.
"The behaviour of this group has caused intimidation, anxiety and fear to many of the people using the shops and passing through over the last few weeks.
"The frustration of other residents also came out as anger towards the young people."
The dispersal zone is in place around Millbrook Towers and the shops on Windermere Avenue until 11.59pm on Sunday.
Any person already dispersed from the area who returns during this time will be arrested and prosecuted.
Any person in the zone who is causing or likely to cause anti-social behaviour or disorder can be dispersed for the duration of the order.
