Following the incident, residents expressed their shock and called for more support for young people.
Youth worker Parveen Ishfaq, who is heavily involved in the St Mary's community, said: "I don’t know what happened last night but the community and the council can prevent this from happening.
"Young people are very vulnerable and I think the youth services that were closed by the council need to return.
"They need somewhere to go to take them off the streets and to stay active. We have to educate young people."
The 53-year-old added: "For me, every life matters, whether you are old or young, it doesn’t matter."
The importance of education was also highlighted by City College employee, Maryanne.
She said: "I am quite shocked and horrified, but stabbings and knife crime are on the rise.
"To make it safer, there needs to be more police in the area and better education for people for the awareness of knife crime."
Witnesses for this incident are being sought.
