FOUR teenage 'scoundrels' have been arrested in Southampton after the riders of three suspected stolen motorbikes fled police.

Officers said they made the arrests on Wednesday afternoon.

Police had been called to Portswood Road at 10.15am on Wednesday - and then saw the rider go through 'a red light at speed along High Road onto Portswood Road'.

The same bike was seen by officers on patrol just after 2pm crossing Lordswood Road from Dale Valley Road into Dunkirk Road in a dangerous manner and then believed to have entered Lordswood.

Police from Southampton and Eastleigh neighbourhood teams, traffic police and the police helicopter joined the hunt and found two motorbikes - and the teenagers.

A moped was seized when it was dropped by a rider who hit a dead end, and a Royal Enfield, was found abandoned in Lordswood.

The teenagers had run into a fenced area where gas works are located.

"Trapping themselves" in the site, police later caught up with them despite their efforts to climb out.

Three Southampton 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of stealing a motorbike.

A 15-year-old city boy was arrested in the woods on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle. He was further arrested for using threatening or abusive behaviour involving "foul language," police said.

In a post on Southampton Cops Facebook Page, police said: "The four teenage scoundrels will be with us for a while, 'assisting with our enquiries'.

"The two motorbikes were recovered and a third fled the area through the containment. That villain is on borrowed time.

"We are committed to tackling motorcycle related crime.

"Whilst chasing them through... and in roads is not usually an option, we can still get them. We always ask for the communities help."
