The youngster, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has now been found not guilty of attempted murder after a trial at Southampton Crown Court.
However, a jury found him guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
A court previously heard how the victim, who was aged 18, had tried to run back to his car but tripped and fell.
The defendant then lunged at him with a large knife as he lay on the ground.
Mr Kelly Brocklehurst, prosecuting, said the defendant then fled the scene, meanwhile, Ingus managed to reach his car and began knocking on nearby doors for help.
After he retrieved a medical kit from the vehicle, a woman came out of her house and gave him first aid while another neighbour rang for an ambulance.
He was later taken to Southampton General Hospital with "five pentrating injuries" to his chest, abdomen and left buttock.
He also suffered a fractured rib and a collapsed lung.

One woman said at the time: "I heard the air ambulance flying overhead and a whole load of sirens. A track leading down to the river is still cordoned off."
The defendant is now due to attend the same court for sentencing on May 17.
He previously denied attempting to murder Ingus and also denied wounding him with intent.
