A SOUTHAMPTON man who failed to pay for a train ticket will be out of pocket more than £700.
Jacob Baseow, 20, was caught at Didcot Parkway station on September 26 last year.
He had been travelling on a Great Western Railway service, without having paid the fare of £78.60.
Magistrates in Oxford proved Baseow, of Heywood Green, guilty in his absence at a hearing on March 25.
He was fined £440, must pay compensation of £78.60, court costs of £180 and a victim surcharge of £44.
This totals £742.60.
Explaining fines on its website, GWR said: “If you have been issued an Unpaid Fare or a Penalty Fare Notice, you must either pay or appeal within 21 days.
"If you were interviewed under caution, a report will be sent to our Prosecutions Department; who will review the facts and then contact you in writing.
"If you do not respond or the matter is not resolved you may receive a summons requiring you to attend court.”
