CHILDREN aged 5-11 are now able to recieve a Covid-19 jab across Hampshire.

The vaccine, which is a specially developed paediatric version for children, has been available to vulnerable 5-11 year olds or those who live someone who is immunosuppressed since December.

But now, following updated guidance it has now been extended to all children aged 5-11.

Children have been able to access the vaccine at vaccination sites, community pharmacist and their GPs since April 4.

Parents can book slots on the national booking system immediately.

Dr Matt Nisbet, Hampshire and Isle of Wight COVID-19 Vaccines Programme Clinical Lead said: “The vaccine is still our best protection against COVID-19.

"It is safe and I would encourage anyone eligible to get their jab.

"We know children in this age group are least affected by the virus, however getting the vaccine isn’t just about protecting them, but also their friends, teachers, class-mates and family members who might be susceptible to the virus.

"Our staff are happy to talk to any parent or child who is unsure and wants to learn more before deciding.”

Over 4 million doses of the vaccine have been given out across Hampshire so far.
