WEARING traditional dresses and sharing homemade national cuisine, Southampton pupils celebrated International Community Day.

Students of Highfield CE Primary School got together with their families and got a chance to share and learn about the different cultures and countries in the school’s community.

Daily Echo:

The whistle-stop tour of several different countries was organised by the Family and Friends of Highfield, which is the parent-led charity of the school.

To make things more exciting, the pupils were given 'passports' which they used to go to the different countries and ask questions about their culture.

The event also featured free workshops for the children to learn different dancing styles such as Bhangra and Chinese dragon dance. Cheerleading, as well as karate classes, was also available on the day.

The school halls and classes were decorated with colourful flags of countries around the world.

Daily Echo: The celebrations took place on Saturday, March 19 and parents and children were encouraged to wear traditional dresses and bring food that is famous in their culture.

A spokesperson for Highfield School Family and Friends said: "This is such a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our international community and bring school families together.

"The children love to find out about different cultures and foods from their friends."

Daily Echo:

Rosie Savill, the acting headteacher, said: "It was a fabulous day celebrating our wonderful school community.
