DOZENS of drivers flocked to a supermarket car park to attend an unauthorised car meet.

Police were called to the car meet in the Sainsbury’s car park in Broadcut, Fareham, at 7.55pm on Sunday.

Noise nuisance was reported and officers attended to "monitor the situation".

However, the group finally left the scene at 9.20pm.

Inspector Gavin Biggs from the Roads Policing Unit said: “While the majority of car enthusiasts are law-abiding and passionate about their vehicles, these meets can cause disruption and disturbance to nearby residents, as well as pose an unacceptable risk to public safety.

“Hampshire Constabulary will not allow such behaviour to go unchallenged and we ask all drivers to act responsibly and drive safely."

As previously reported, hundreds of petrol heads have flocked to car parks and industrial estates in and around Southampton over recent months to show off their motors.

Residents have complained of noisy engines, dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour.
