A NEW takeaway looks destined to open in a bustling area of Southampton.

Plans to use 16 Bedford Place as a hot food establishment have been approved by the city council.

Applicant Shirley Robinson looks to sell Caribbean-style cuisine from the unit, which was formerly occupied by Peter Conway Tailoring.

The scheme will also see associated works to the shopfront and to the rear, including enlarging and altering the existing single-storey rear extension.

Planning officers have set conditions on permissions, meaning the takeaway will be allowed to open between 12noon and 10pm, seven days a week.

Ms Robinson proposes to employ two people on a full-time contract, and one on part-time hours.

Work will not commence until a written scheme for the control of noise, fumes and odours from extractor fans and other equipment has been submitted to and approved in writing by the Local Planning Authority.
