CONCERNS have been raised about the future of a tenpin bowling site in Southampton after letters were sent out saying it could be demolished.
Residents have been left surprised and saddened that the popular Tenpin bowling alley in Millbrook could shut.
Letters have been sent out to nearby residents saying a planning application is being prepared "for the demolition of the existing Tenpin building and the redevelopment of the site to provide a builders' merchant to be operated by Travis Perkins".
A flyer about the development proposed by Canada Life Investments is also posted near the site, which first opened in the early 90s.
It said: "The proposals seek to contribute towards the site's allocation in the Southampton City Council Local Plan for industrial and warehousing development."

But now the proposals have been met with concern from residents and users of the bowling alley who say they read the news with "dismay".
Paddy Maxwell has been bowling at the facility on Auckland Road since it first opened and said it is "extensively used by disabled groups and schools".
He said: "It's just a shame that a facility like that is closing down.
"There are not many sports where the whole family can play together but with tenpin bowling, they can.
"It is especially popular for children's parties where kids can let off steam in a safe environment.
"If the bowl closes, Southampton will lose yet another public amenity, an amenity that is still busy and popular with all ages."
There is no submitted planning application available to the public. But it's understood letters have been sent to residents by agent NTR Planning asking for their views.
Jeremy Moulton is a Millbrook ward councillor and deputy leader of the council
He told the Echo: "The loss of the Tenpin bowling site will be a great disappointment to people locally.
"It's been a great place for families and like many people, I've enjoyed bowling there and nights out and remember fondly the Crystal Maze some years back."
Staff at the bowling alley said they knew about the flyer but hadn't been told anything more.
Tenpin and Canada Life have been approached for comment.
