A SOUTHAMPTON teen will represent the UK at a world championship kart racing final later this year.
Max Solarski is set to race in the Easy Kart World Finals in Franciacorta, Italy.
Over his racing career, the 15-year-old from Portswood has won over 90 trophies.
He began karting at the age of just eight for fun.
Max told the Daily Echo: “I’m excited. This is a great opportunity that I have been fighting for since the beginning of my career and a dream come true.”
“It’s my dad mostly that helps... I am trying to push onwards but with a significantly lower budget than my rivals although I had better results against better equipment which shows that my driving skills are one of the best.”
Max, who trains with the Southampton-based 303 Squadron Team, will be honing his driving skills in the run-up to the competition in October.
He said: “I need to work physically and mentally. I hope to reach F1 one day so I will continue to do the best I can.”
Max says he is being supported by Bitterne Park School - where he is a pupil.
His father, Robert says he is “so proud” of him, adding: “I didn’t dream that this could happen.
"It was too far away, and I am proud enough for him to be nominated and now he’s representing Great Britain.”
Moving to the UK from Poland in 2003, Robert said that watching his son race he saw “potential”.
“I saw that he was good. So, step by step we went into competing and now he has won a lot,” he added.
He said that they are currently looking for sponsors to fund the equipment and trip to Italy as well as the entry fee to be able to go at all.
Robert told the Daily Echo:
“We currently use our own go-karts in the UK, but we need sponsors.
“We will need to rent tools and go-karts from the manufacturers in Italy and the money will help us pay for the equipment and the entry fee to go.”
