A FORMER nightclub could become flats and shops if given the green light by planning chiefs.
An application submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council outlines plans to transform the former Martine’s nightclub in Regal Buildings, Market Street.
In 2002 the club, which had been renamed Martine’s 2, was closed for a major makeover.
It reopened as Route 66 in a razzmatazz launch but then a few months later the doors were shut again.
The applicant wants to “inject life” into the town centre building by converting it into four commercial units and a total of 18 flats.
The proposal comes after many years of the building being left in a “poor state of repair”.
The applicant states the proposal will create “much-needed” dwellings and commercial space which will improve the street scene by bringing back a derelict and vacant building into use.
If approved, there will be four commercial spaces on the ground floor and 11 one-bedroom, five two-bedroom and two three-bedroom flats.
This will regenerate a building in “desperate need of attention.”
A decision on the plans is due to be be made on July 25.
