The air ambulance has issued a statement after a man was attacked in Southampton city centre last night.

Emergency services were called to Hanover Buildings just before 6pm on Tuesday.

A man in his 20s was assaulted after being allegedly approached by a group of teens.

Two police cars and a police van were at the scene.

The Strand, by Queensway roundabout, was cordoned off.

According to police, the victim suffered minor injuries, however, the air ambulance was also called out.

A red helicopter landed in Hoglands park and paramedics treated the patient at the scene.

He was then taken to hospital by road ambulance.

A spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance said: "We received a call at 17:47 to dispatch to in our helicopter to an incident in Southampton. 

"At 18:10 our team, consisting of a pilot, doctor and specialist paramedic, landed nearby and began treating the patient."
