DIBDEN Golf Centre has been given a temporary rent reduction of more than £50,000 a year to help it recover from the pandemic.

Following the latest review of a 30-year contract signed in 2012, New Forest District Council has agreed that Mytime Active should pay an annual £100,000 for the next three years.

The previous yearly rate was £152,471.

But a report to the council's ruling cabinet said changes were needed because of the pandemic's "significant" impact on the charity, which runs 12 golf courses across the UK.

After the Covid crisis began the council supported Mytime Active by waiving rent, some of which was paid by central government.

The council-owned course performed well during 2021 but a report to the cabinet warned that a return to its pre-pandemic popularity was "likely to be gradual".

Services such as events, functions and food had "not yielded expected levels of revenue".

The report added: "Mytime Active wish to work with the council to safeguard Dibden Golf Centre's continuation and ensure its operation achieves a sustainable business model and a strong balance sheet.

"Mytime Active aim to deliver increased membership and average individual spending."

Cabinet members unanimously supported the changes, with Cllr Jeremy Heron saying they would help ensure the partnership’s long-term success.
