SOUTHAMPTON universities are celebrating after climbing up the UK league tables for higher education.
The University of Southampton is amongst the top four in the South East of England.
However, overall, it ranked 13th joining Oxford in the UK's top 25 universities.
It has risen by two places, whereas Solent University has jumped up by three places.
It now sits at 117 out of 130 universities.
The University of Oxford has come top of the class for this year’s annual Complete University Guide rankings.
Professor Mark E Smith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton, has welcomed the announcement. He said: "This is really encouraging news, and I’m particularly pleased to note a third consecutive rise in the guide rankings, showing that not only are we a top UK university – but one that continues to consolidate our position."
Meanwhile, Professor Karen Stanton, Vice-Chancellor of Solent University, said: "We are pleased that Solent University has seen an increase of three places in the latest Complete University Guide league table.
She added:"This positive result provides a clear reinforcement of our latest strategic plans that are providing our students with the high-quality teaching, research and facilities they need to ensure they graduate with the knowledge and skills to achieve their ambitions, benefit their communities and shape the future.
She praised the "hard work, commitment and innovation" of the university's staff and vowed to make the changes and improvements to deliver a successful future.
