AN ALERT has been issued amid fears the hot weather could result in wildfires breaking out in the New Forest.
Residents and visitors to the Forest are being reminded that barbecues and campfires in the district are banned.
Recent hot weather has left much of the Forest tinder dry - and the heatwave is expected to peak today.
Echoing a warning issued by Forestry England, New Forest Heart Cops said: "The New Forest is on high alert for the risk of wildfires.
"It can only take one spark to start a potentially devastating wildfire from a discarded cigarette.
"The New Forest is a no BBQ and fire zone at all times of the year. They are not permitted in any of our car park or other areas of the Forest.
"Please reduce the risk of fire and #CareForTheForest. If you discover a forest fire call 999 and if you can, use What3Words to give an exact location."
