Southampton residents are being encouraged to support the city's traders this week by shopping from independent businesses.
Go! Southampton is sponsoring Independents Week in a bid to encourage people to shop at local, family-run businesses.
The initiative, supported by the Daily Echo, is part of National Independent Retailer Month.
Stephen Manion, Executive Director of business improvement district said: "GO! Southampton is very proud of the city’s independent business offering, from tempting treats and delicious dining to beautiful clothes and quirky gifts, customers always enjoy a warm welcome and a personal service that is a great experience for the whole family.
"We are pleased to offer the city’s businesses support throughout the year, from recruitment and staff training to photography and marketing."
With July being National Independent Retailer Month, this coming weekend will see a national celebration of independent retailers, and in a bid to support local businesses, the Daily Echo will also be featuring a local business every day this week.
We will be sharing some of the history behind them and what they offer to the community.
Anna Cooper, 51, owner of Stakks pancake house in Southampton, said: "As a business owner I am looking forward to this, any advertising is welcome.
"More needs to be done for independent businesses because they are the ones that have the least resources."
After two challenging years dealing with the impact of the pandemic, extra help from residents couldn't come at a better time, Anna says.
"With the full opening up of the economy, the business has been okay, it hasn’t been amazing. We really could do with help from the local residents to come support our business.
"If you want the local business to survive, you have to go and eat there."
She added: "When you go out, think what businesses are around you that need supporting.
"Although big companies also need support, they have a big structure and can support each other. When you’re an independent business, customers pay our wages."
