A CINEMA chain is giving redheads refuge from soaring temperatures with free air-conditioned screenings.

To protect those "more vulnerable than most to the sun’s rays", Showcase Cinema in Westquay will be giving tickets away for free.

The special offer comes as temperatures are expected to reach highs of 32 degrees in the city today.

Showcase Cinemas' Southampton branch is taking part in the nationwide 'ginger protection plan' on the heatwave's peak days - Monday and Tuesday.

The company said: "We're giving [ginger people] shelter from the sun inside our fully air-conditioned cinema screens to catch the latest blockbusters for no cost at all."

Free entry can only be claimed once a day. 

A spokesperson from the cinema chain said the offer is only for natural redheads adding that people dyeing their hair can "always try their luck".

Current screenings include Thor: Love & Thunder, Minions 2: The Rise Of Gru, Elvis, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World: Dominion, The Black Phone, and The Railway Children Return.
