AN ELDERLY woman has been left "shaken and upset" after handing money to bogus roof repair technicians.

Police in Hedge End say the woman was intimidated into paying for unnecessary work to her roof.

An investigation has been launched and the force has shared advice for anyone else who may be visited by cold callers.

Speaking on social media, a police spokesperson said: "The victim was left shaken and upset by their forceful nature.

"These sorts of criminals mainly target vulnerable/elderly people. Please keep an eye out for your neighbours and loved ones."

Residents have been warned not to agree to anything just to get rid of a seller, check and take note of their ID and get a receipt if any purchase is made.

Police have also urged people not to pay the full amount or a large deposit up front and get a copy of any paperwork, advert or flyer.

The spokesperson added: "If you tell someone to leave your home, it’s a criminal offence if they don’t do as you ask.

"IF IN DOUBT, KEEP THEM OUT!"
