What happened?
Just after 12.20pm on Sunday, police were called to Langhorn Road in Swaythling after receiving reports of an incident involving a man in his late teens.
A police spokesperson told the Echo they'd received reports of the man having been "seriously assaulted".
The entire road was quickly closed off with a large police presence or more than a dozen vehicles remaining at the scene for most of the day.
Forensic teams were also seen at the incident.
What is the situation with the injured man?
The Echo understands the man was rushed to hospital soon after the incident in what police described as a "serious condition".
It is not yet known what injuries the man sustained but an air ambulance was spotted in the area around the time of the incident.
One on-looker said the aircraft landed at nearby Daisy Dip.
South Central Ambulance Service has been approached for more information but at this stage, it has not been revealed whether the man was taken to hospital by air or land.
Were residents allowed down the road?
Langhorn Road was still closed off to vehicles from both ends at around 5pm yesterday.
An alleyway which runs between houses onto the street was also blocked by police tape as the investigation continued.
Residents were allowed to go to their houses but had to be escorted by officers and ask permission.
Many were seen going into their homes to collect possessions before leaving again, with some standing at the edge of the cordon observing what was going on.
At one point, an officer was seen bringing a dog down to a resident who was stood at the edge of the cordon unable to get in.
What have police said on the incident?
A police spokesperson told the Echo: "We were called at 12.21pm today (24 July) to Langhorn Road, Southampton, following reports a man in his late teens had been seriously assaulted.
"He was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
"A scene is in place in Langhorn Road and enquiries continue to establish the exact circumstances of what happened."
Officers at the scene were unable to give any further information on the incident or when the road would reopen.
How have people reacted to the news?
Those living on the street explained how they didn't know what had happened but said the road had been closed ever since around midday.
They added that people in white suits had been going in and out.
On the Echo Facebook page, one reader said: "I hope [the injured man] recovers soon".
Another one added: "Hope he’ll be ok and they’ve got who did it!"
At the time of writing, it is understood that no-one has been arrested in connection with the assault.
