AN INVESTIGATION has been launched following the death of a worker at Southampton docks.

Operations were ground to a halt after a man died during a medical emergency.

Fire engines, police cars, a helicopter and paramedics were all scrambled during an incident near Dock Gate 20 on July 14.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has now confirmed a probe is underway.

A spokesperson for the watchdog, said: "HSE is aware of this incident and is making inquiries.”

The deep sea container terminal operator, DP World, confirmed the worker died of natural causes.

And temporarily suspended operations as "a mark of respect".

South Central Ambulance Service previously issued a statement saying it had been alerted shortly after 11.30am, and that the worker had been "in an extremely difficult to access area".

Several hazardous area response team vehicles responded from the fire service.

"The high level of emergency services was a result of the patient being in an extremely difficult to access area," an ambulance spokesperson added.
