Southampton locals were seen in parks enjoying the sun

Sunseekers were out in the city's parks on Saturday enjoying the sunny weather albeit in the shade on occasion.

In Watts Park, Chris Nunneley, 64, from Southampton said: “I enjoy the hot weather, but perhaps it’s a little too hot for me, so I get out in the sun as much as possible but try to avoid the highest temperatures.”

Lucy Finn, 32, from Southampton

Lucy Finn, 32, and her daughter, four-month-old Maggie, were taking a walk, also in Watts Park.

Lucy said: “It’s extremely hot, but it’s nice and you’ve got to make the most of it as it’ll be winter soon.

"We’ve been seeing some friends at the social and now we’re getting to the bus stop to go home but we just sat in the shade which is lovely despite it being really hot.

“If it was just myself, I would sit in the garden and have a beer but with the baby, I have to be a bit mindful and there are fewer places where there’s air conditioning so we’re trying to stay in the shade.”

Ivan Hayward, 78, from Shaftesbury

Ivan Hayward, 78, travelled to Southampton all the way from Shaftesbury to watch Saints clash with Leeds.

He said: “I’m enjoying this weather very much, it may be a bit too hot for the football but other than that it’s good. I’m enjoying having my lunch here in the shade and it’s nice so we’re alright.”

Daniel from Southampton said: “Today and the last few days have been really hot. I have just been sticking to the shade, I’ve got my hat and sun cream and all that stuff so just trying to keep cool.

“I have been keeping all curtains closed and haven’t been going outside or at least staying in the shade for most of it. The last couple of nights have been really uncomfortable so I’m looking forward to the thunder’s storms.”

It comes as the Met Office issued an amber warning for extreme heat that covered most of England and parts of Wales.

The amber warning started at midnight on Thursday and is set to end at midnight on Sunday.
