A SOUTHAMPTON park was closed on Monday following the discovery of a body - five days after another body was found in the same location.

Emergency services cordoned off Mayflower Park in Southampton yesterday morning after a woman’s body was found.

The park was closed off by police from 6am and remained shut for a few hours.

It had reopened by mid-afternoon.

Firefighters were also on the scene at the edge of the water.

Work to identify the woman and her family is ongoing and the death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "St Mary’s firefighters were called to assist Hampshire Constabulary partners at Mayflower Park at 8.25am this morning.

"The crew left the scene at 9.15am with the incident left with police."

It is not clear where exactly the body was found.

Only last week emergency services rushed to the park just after a woman was found dead.

In this case officers said her death is being treated as a non-suspicious death and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Emergency services were called to the park after being alerted to reports of a sudden death.

The body was found shortly after 9pm on Tuesday, August 9.
