A "HUGE" fight broke out outside a pub last night leaving a man in hospital with serious head injuries.
In a shocking video shared with the Daily Echo, more than a dozen people were seen fighting and shouting in the early hours of Friday.
During the altercation just opposite the Robin Hood pub on South East Road, a man was filmed using a baseball bat to strike another man lying on the floor.
The same bat appears to snap on the man’s back.
Nearby residents woken up by the fight reported seeing "a lot of blood" on the road.
A 24-year-old man who lives on Middle Road said: “I was in bed when it started. It began with lots of people fighting in the road [in front of the pub]. I could hear it from my room and my room is at the back of the house.”
He added: “Judging by the noise, lots of people were involved. They probably were drunk. The noise started around 11pm and went on until 1am.”
Speaking to Echo, another resident said: “It happened around midnight, they were all drinking and then it went mad. There was a lot of blood.
“There was so much noise that I couldn’t sleep.”
Residents say it is not the first time fights have been reported in the area with some saying the issue has become a “nightmare”.
“I woke up one time just after 1am because they were shouting while still drinking in the garden, this has to stop,” said one resident.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said: “We received a report of a large altercation outside a pub in South East Road, Southampton, at around 12.15 am this morning, 19 August.
“During the altercation, a man in his 30s received serious head injuries and remains in hospital at this time.”
