Prosecuting, Natalie Angel said the 27-year-old had made a statement at the time saying he hadn't done anything wrong and was just defending himself.

Ms Angel gave a statement from a neighbour near the South East Road pub who said she could hear a commotion, with 20 or so young adults outside.

Many calls were made to the police.

Kerby, of Fort Road, Woolston, was remanded in custody to appear at Southampton Crown Court on September 23.
