After the cost of fuel surged to new highs this summer, the price of filling up a 55-litre tank has finally dropped.

According to the RAC, the average price of petrol saw a drop of nearly 9p per litre in July which has enabled customers to save almost £5 at the pump.

The price of diesel also came down by nearly 7p a litre which has reduced the price of a fill-up by £3.68.

Despite these being the third and fourth biggest monthly reductions in the last 20 years, the RAC says they still don’t reflect the fall in the wholesale price of fuel.

This means drivers at the end of July, on average, could be paying almost £9 a tank more than they should be.
