A MANCHESTER United fan is understood to have thrown a smoke bomb outside a Southampton pub ahead of today's clash against Saints.
Yates in Above Bar Street had to shut temporarily after a fan set off a flare about an hour before kick-off.
The incident was "quickly contained", the Echo understands, and the pub was able to reopen.
Away fans gathered at the pub this morning in preparation for the 12.30pm game at St Mary's.
They were heard singing anti-Leeds chants.
Today's match was Saints' second home game of the season. It finished 1-0 for Manchester United.
Hampshire police has been contacted for more information.
