A DETACHED house backing on to the River Itchen is to be sold at auction.
The property at 29 Vespasian Road, Bitterne, is on the market for a guide price of £380-420,000.
It is among 162 lots across southern England listed by Clive Emson Auctioneers.
Rob Marchant, the Hampshire auctioneer for the firm, which is a member of Southampton Property Association, said: “We anticipate keen interest because of its location and potential.
“The substantial freehold detached building is situated close to the boatyards and pontoons onto the River Itchen and is situated a short distance from the centre of Bitterne with all of its shopping and other amenities.
“Built as a significant family dwelling, the house has in more recent times been used for room-by-room accommodation, including to boat owners utilising the nearby boatyards and pontoon.
“It is considered that the building could, in the future, be used in a number of guises including on a commercial basis perhaps as a home of multiple occupation or there is scope and potential for a flat conversion scheme or site redevelopment, subject to all necessary consents being obtainable.
“Alternatively, although requiring upgrading and refurbishment, it is considered that the property could once again be restored as a splendid single-family dwelling and the building is considered very worthy of the works required.”
The online auction ends on Wednesday, September 21. Bidding opens 48 hours beforehand.
