STUNNING photos have captured the moment a lightning storm illuminated the Hampshire night sky.

Lightning strikes and thunder hit Southampton in the past two nights - much to the delight of talented photographers who didn't miss the chance to snap the spectacle.

A yellow weather warning for thunder issued by the Met Office was in place on Sunday and Monday night.

Daily Echo Camera Club member, Evie Keen, took this photo of lightning over Meon Beach while fellow Camera Club member, John Scamell, captured the moment a lightning strike lit up Bitterne Triangle.

More thunder could be on the way later today, according to the Met Office.

Forecasters say there is a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms hitting the city between 4pm and 5pm, going down to 50 per cent between 9pm and 11pm.

More thunder is also forecast on Wednesday afternoon and early in the morning on Thursday.
