IT’S the award-winning city pub with stunning views looking out over the river.
The Bishop on the Bridge has this week been announced the winner of the annual Winchester Best Bar None Awards.
The national accreditation scheme, which runs in cities and towns across the country, recognises licensed venues for creating a safer night-time environment.

The Bishop on the Bridge was awarded a Best Bar None gold accreditation as well as being announced as the overall winner at the awards ceremony, held at the University of Winchester.
Silver and gold accreditations were awarded to 11 venues across Winchester. The awards are supported by the Home Office and are regularly assessed to ensure relevant safety priorities are incorporated.
Jane Drinkwater, General Manager of The Bishop on the Bridge for the past nine years, said: “I am delighted to have been awarded the Best Bar None gold accreditation – and to be the overall winner in Winchester is amazing."The Bishop on the Bridge is a crucial part of its community so it’s important to us that all our customers – locals and visitors alike – feel safe when they’re here. We also work with other local venues to promote safety across the city of Winchester.

Jane and other members of the team attended the special ceremony and were given their trophy by police chief Jon Turton.
Situated on the banks of the River Itchen, The Bishop on the Bridge is in the heart of the picturesque city centre.
Premium pub and hotel operator Fuller, Smith & Turner,carried out an extensive refurbishment three years ago, with the pub reopening its doors in May 2019.
The bar, dining space and garden all underwent impressive transformations, showing off the great riverside views, which can be enjoyed whether you’re sat inside or in the garden.
The menu which features a selection of pub classics, gourmet food and plenty of vegetarian options, plus brunch is available on weekends, between 9:30 and 11:30am.
