THE Itchen Bridge has reopened after it was closed this morning due to a concern for welfare incident.

Police were called out at 3.37am this morning after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man on the bridge.

Southampton City Council's highways team said the bridge was shut in both directions at around 3.50am.

The man was subsequently found safely by police.

Meanwhile, motorists were asked to seek alternative routes.

The bridge continued to be closed whilst officers were on the scene but reopened when they left at around 4.30am.
