A TEAM of novice climbers are taking on the Three Peaks Challenge this week in memory of their adventure loving friend and colleague.

The group from Highfield Professional Solutions in Durley are all set to climb Britain's biggest peaks a year after the co-founder of the business Sam Hughes lost his long and brave battle with bowel cancer, aged 40.

They have already raised more than £3,000 to honour the husband and father who loved a challenge and who had previously taken part in the Three Peaks Challenge himself.

Every penny raised will go to Bowel Cancer UK, a charity which Sam supported personally with a number of efforts and which helped to prolong his life during a seven year cancer battle.

The team of five all have varying fitness levels and none have any experience of climbing, but they're ready and raring to take on three peaks in three days.

The 3 Day 3 Peaks Challenge is an attempt to climb the three highest peaks in the UK over three days, one each day, whilst taking in the magnificent scenery these peaks have to offer.

The peaks are Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales).

The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft). The total driving distance is 462 miles.
