A VIDEO shows a helicopter circling above Southampton late last night following a concern for welfare call.

City residents spotted the helicopter swoop over the Itchen Bridge before 10pm on Monday.

Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed officers were called to reports of a concern for welfare incident.

The caller had heard a man walking in the Centenary Quay area and were concerned for his welfare.

Emergency services attended the area to carry out a search but the man was not located.

One Northam estate resident said it was hovering above "for ages", adding: "I thought it was going to land on the estate as it was that loud."

The video shows a helicopter floodlight being used, shining a light on and around the bridge.

The Daily Echo has also contacted HM Coastguard.
